When did Promensil first become available?
Promensil became available in Australia in September 1997. Promensil
is now available in the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and the Netherlands.
What are the Promensil package sizes and recommended retail prices?
There are 30 tablet and 60 tablet packages available, which will last
one month and two months respectively when used at the recommended dose of one tablet
daily. Promensil is available at your local supercenters, grocery, drug and health
food stores. If you have any difficulties finding Promensil, please contact our
representative toll-free at 1-888-749-8860.
Where can I buy Promensil?
Promensil is available at supercenters, most pharmacies, grocery, drug
and health food stores.
What is red clover?
Red clover (Trifolium pratense ) is a legume. Other examples
of legumes include chickpeas, lentils and soybeans. Red clover is accepted as a
human food throughout the world.
What is Promensil for?
- Relieves the symptoms of menopause†
- Relieves hot flashes†
- Relieves night sweats†
- Helps improve general well being†
- Maintains bone health†
- Maintains cholesterol already in normal range†
How does Promensil work?
At midlife, the body's own hormone levels start declining and a
woman can feel quite unlike her normal self. Supplementing your diet with Promensil
may assist in the improvement of well being when these hormones are declining and
dietary intake of isoflavones is inadequate.†
Isoflavones are phytoestrogens, which literally means, “plant estrogens”.
Isoflavones are similar in chemical structure to the body’s own estrogen,
and when consumed in adequate amounts they are able to safely mimic some of the
effects of estrogen to assist with maintaining health and well being. Isoflavones,
however, are weaker than our natural estrogen, and are selective in their action
in the body. Isoflavones supplement the needs of women over 45 when levels of hormones
are declining.†
What does Promensil contain?
Each tablet contains a total of 40 mg of four standardized isoflavones,
genistein, daidzein, formononetin and biochanin sourced from red clover (Trifolium
pratense). The biologically active ingredients are naturally occurring
plant hormones, which are NOT chemically synthesized.
Promensil is free from sugar, yeast, milk derivatives, wheat and corn starch, gluten,
preservatives, artificial colors and flavors.
What is the recommended daily dose of Promensil?
Scientific studies indicate that the amount of isoflavones contained
in one Promensil tablet is approximately equivalent to the amount of isoflavones
consumed by people on a traditional vegetarian diet which includes a high legume
intake. Therefore, we recommend that one Promensil tablet per day is sufficient
for most women to help manage the symptoms of menopause naturally.
How long does it take before I will see the benefits of Promensil?
Depending on the symptoms experienced, between 2 and 5 weeks.
The response may vary with the individual. If you have had absolutely no change in
your well being after six weeks then you should contact your doctor or call us at
1-877-417-7663, as we may be able to suggest ways to improve the efficacy of Promensil
for you.
How do you know Promensil works?
Novogen, the world leader in isoflavone research, has conducted clinical
trials throughout the world to demonstrate the benefits of Promensil for the alleviation
of menopausal symptoms including hot flashes and feelings of well being. As we speak,
even more global research is underway to further expand upon our knowledge of isoflavones
and health1-5.†
What is the calcium content in Promensil, and is this enough to use as a daily supplement?
Promensil is a dietary supplement specifically formulated to provide
isoflavones rather than calcium. Each tablet contains approximately 45mg of calcium.
The recommended intake of calcium is approximately 1000 mg per day, which would
normally be expected to be obtained from other calcium-rich foods in your diet.
Always ensure that dietary calcium intake is sufficient unless otherwise specified
by your healthcare professional.
Is Promensil compatible with the oral contraceptive pill or HRT?
It is recommended that you consult your healthcare professional about
taking any dietary supplement while taking prescription medication.
Can I change from HRT to Promensil?
To date, all of the clinical trials with Promensil in post-menopausal
women required that no HRT was taken in recent months. In practice, it is anticipated
that some time will be needed to allow the body to adjust to the change from synthetic
hormones to the natural isoflavone approach. The following suggestions should be
discussed with your doctor before any changeover is contemplated:
- Take both HRT and Promensil (one tablet daily) together for a period of time, before
gradually reducing the dose of HRT.
- Stop HRT and start Promensil twice daily (or until menopause symptoms are managed),
then 1 tablet thereafter.
- Stop HRT and start Promensil one tablet daily. However, there may be significant
menopausal symptoms associated with an abrupt changeover until the patient adjusts.
Can I use Promensil if I'm still getting regular monthly periods?
Each tablet of Promensil contains 40mg of isoflavones. 40 mg per day
is the daily dietary dose both men and women are exposed to every day of their life
in Japan, so it is anticipated that the isoflavones levels in Promensil will not
interfere with your normal menstrual cycle.
What is the difference between red clover products and between red clover and soy isoflavones?
Red Clover (Trifolium pretense) provides 10-20 times the levels of
isoflavones than soy and is one of the few plants to contain all four principle
isoflavones—formononetin, biochanin A, genistein and daidzein. However, these natural
isoflavones come in two different forms, depending on whether they have sugars attached
(glucoside) or no sugars attached (aglycone). For your body to use isoflavones from
plants, they need to be in the aglycone form. Most commercial isoflavones are not
aglycones so your body has to convert the natural isoflavones into an aglycone form
and this conversion may not take place with 100% efficiency.
Red clover and soy are both legumes and belong to the same family of plants. The
main difference is that red clover contains four active isoflavones whereas soy
only has two. The extra two found in red clover are commonly found in other legumes
such as chick peas and lentils. For more information on natural sources of isoflavones
